I got to witness a ghetto latte - or perhaps it was a ghetto mocha - first hand tonight.
Some dude comes in and orders a tall iced coffee in a venti cup. And we all know how this is going to go....
I happened to be sitting facing the condiment bar, so I got to see it play out.
Immediately after getting the drink, he walked over, took off the lid, and started dumping in chocolate powder and sugar.
And I don't mean sprinkling. I mean three packets of raw sugar and unscrewing the the lid of the chocolate sprinkles and carefully knocking in chocolate powder.
After that, it was time to fill up the cup with half and half.
The coffee was black when he took it over - and it was nearly white when he was finished. He took a few sips - and kept adjusting. One more packet of sugar - and then some cinnamon sprinkles.
It was a sight.
I would have approved, except that he had on $70 athletic shoes.

The term "ghetto latte" is unethical due to the term used by coffee shops by a long standing behavior, coffee is usually drunk hot, espresso is usually served with steamed milk, the terms macchiato, cappuchino, cortado, latte refer to the size of the steamed milk that is used, to twist the word around and say that an espresso shot with ice and ANY amount of milk is a latte is wrong, after all what's an iced macchiato then?
ReplyDeleteTo be fair certain shops have small and large and may word it as iced cap or iced latte depending on size, fair but not correct, its ridiculous with shops making up hyped up claims on how a watered down iced americano is okay but not an iced espresso on sourness.
